  1. #1 Mount for Scarlet with Canon 400/2.8?
    Greetings all!

Looking for a SOLID, flex-free, mounting plate or rod system to plant 10lbs of Scarlet and 12lbs of Canon glass on sticks. I welcome the most opinionated recommendations you can muster! (Fairly certain I'm not the first to use this setup - what have *you* used?!?)

    Cheers!

Welcome to the forum, Chris. Ha - it's pretty funny to see you listed as a "junior" member.

Think you'll have things in order by Thursday so we can use the 400?

I had the "Century 2000" converted version and used the Element Technica 19mm hybrid base plate w/ 24" steel rods.

I've linked the 15mm LW version because that's what's in the store, but you can easily get a 15 Studio or 19 version either by calling them and requesting it or, more simply (if you hate the phone like I do anyway), ordering the Q-mount, 3" rod, & 1/2-to-1/4 adapter screw separately through the online store.

Terry - Thanks for the Welcome! Yes, I did enter the fold a little late, but RED is so intuitive I really hadn't had any queries. Sorry I missed your shoot Thursday, but I fear the 400 would necessitate the camera being far too far away from your beautiful leading lady.

Thanks Keith! Thanks Lee! ~ I appreciate the tips and having weighed and investigated them, came up with a different solution: my favorite local machinist is making a custom 15" plate for my 3066 head, and milling the precise 1.7mm difference between the camera and lens mount planes. This will be a bomb-proof, flex-free mount for under $700 that can be balanced instantly, regardless of the camera configuration. I'll report back if it really is the bees knees.

    Cheers!

    Chris ~
