We bought one fully loaded the other week...Hope they stay somewhat sane and keep making those. Just look inside and you instantly realize how nice these machines are made. All the mac pros we bought during the years have been a bit more costy than a pc with the same data spec ( they never have the same solid built machines but in regards to cpu power etc) the difference is that the mac's last and after 3-4 years or so I can sell them a get a decent payment. PC's on the other hand usually goes straight to the dumpster after a couple of years.

Some developers who have seen the road map have decided to drop OSX support. Even RED has 'gone PC' and I'm sure they're also privy to what lays ahead. I wouldn't be building an OSX pipeline right now unless you think iMacs are usable. Apple has *always* been slow on staying up to date on hardware, especially GPUs--and I don't see the status quo changing any time soon.

I think the concept of the "pro" personal computer is evolving. There'll be more modularity and the ability to configure the box that you need. Thunderbolt will lead the way. There'll be RAID enclosures, expansion chassis, etc. Sonnet even has a box now that can expand a Mac mini with PCIE boards, etc. Wouldn't be all that surprised if Apple led the way. We'll see.

    The only constant is change.

I often hear that the Sonnet box and Thunderbolt in a more general way, can't keep up with the speed required for graphics cards. Can't say if it is true, I don't know that much about that kind of stuff.

Anyway I think Apple HAVE to continue making tower computers just because our industry can't really work on iMacs. In fact, I think they should make a smaller tower (a bit like the G4 Cube but bigger... I'm thinking something like the "fragbox" from Falcon Northwest but with the Apple taste) with non Xeon processors (6+ cores core I7) for small budget pros AND for gamers. I know... Gamer... On mac... A joke ? BUT with lots of frist grade video games on the Mac Market (Diablo 3 recently !) I think a good Mac tower computer for the same price of the iMac could make a huge hit.

Or maybe it's just because I want one ? lol

The lack of new stuff is a given in many areas of Apple. It is to expect that they renew everything, and radical. I assume that the gap between existing hardware and the new developed ones will be a really big one. I think it will be after many years a complete renew of how things work. But discussing things will not move them, nor 15k people on Facebook will change them at all. Their plans and route maps are spanned over longer distances.
Just my two cents. (Apple Pro User since two decades, before that I was a "student user", now I teach at Apple from time to time)
