This was one of the most clever devices in the script...wish they had gone further here... but this genius makes it all the harder to understand the inclusion of all the other mind numbingly stupid scenes

like the final payoff scene... which is the brith of a XENOmorph that went to the dentist and got porcelain veneers and human pink gums!

    Lawrence of Arabia and David:

    Personal level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDsbzr41Msc

Plot level (Davids inner world): He has an inner conflict between helping humans which created him and wanting the engineers to succeed. This closely represents Lawrence's inner conflict and the major theme in Lawrence of Arabia, the film.

Current sociological political theme: A man who is fighting in the middle east and gets a conscience between loyalty to his military state and the arab people he is fighting with. The crusaders problem.

Film industry level: Sony is releasing Lawrence of arabia on blu ray, directors cut this year with 4k scans. Lawrence of arabia was shot in 70mm.

I assumed David liked Lawrence of Arabia because it was an outsider who learns to fit in among foreigners, learn their ways and ultimately become accepted by them--even going so far as leading them. Another one of the few examples of really great direction and writing that largely falls flat without sustenance.
