...i'd much rather shoot an EX1 vs. going direct to external prores record device. You'll get much better picuture from the start with the EX1, Z1 or P2....or any of those cameras. Your of course WAY better off shooting RAW and taking time to work the images in a proper color monitoring realm--now here's where it becomes a BLACK ART or BLACK MAGIC---i know now how B.M got their name....I can go on about this end of things....but i'll keep it to that.

Are you kidding me? My 10-bit prores files from the Scarlet are 17.9 billion times better than anything I ever recorded from an EX or P2....and let's not even put a Z1 into that equation. The HDSDI 1080p output from a Scarlet/Epic is astonishing, and 10-bit ProRes is joy.

I'd suggest you actually use a recorder and record out to say a pix 240 @ 422 and a flat raw look and then tell me otherwise....sure i probably exatureted a bit...but would shoot a 750 or 900 before EVER considering shooting my epic to an external device recording prores--which i've done on three occasions and there's no reason to shoot on epic or scarlet if you are just making prores files out of your sdi....makes no sense at all and makes the post process a pain.

Totally agree with Johnny, also when working with underwater footage trying to correct a flat image @422 is hard to make it look good.

I'll echo Mike, here - how fares our fair cameras in confined space with hot little sensors? Does the water temp keep the system cool? Also, what batteries can squeeze into the housing, Gates and Aquavideo? Are we restricted to REDVolts or possibly AB Dionic 90? And finally... have you experienced or heard of condensation being an issue?

Temperature is fine, I spent 10 hours in a 31 C (nearly 90F) pool shooting a TVC and the camera was running the whole time, it never overheated once. I have the fans set manually to 100% on standby and 75% on record no problems at all. With regards to batteries I am using GMP 160's and I get two and half hours run time. I haven't had a issue with condensation but best practice is try and close the housing in an aircon environment or at least cool and dry. PVC housings suffer much worse for fogging that Ali ones. Plus I think having the fan on in the camera helps solve the problem also.
