My first time using REDundead, and no matter what I do or use the hints in the pdf. It still won't copy the files over. The only reason I'm using REDundead is because the drive is saying (error -36) so the only way I can think of getting the clips onto another drive is REDundead. If anyone can give me some help, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Software I'm using
    Mac 10.6.8
    REDundead 2.0

I've only ever used REDundead as part of R3D Data Manager. You need to install REDundead on it's own, as well as one or two other utilities from Red (it's been a while, so I forget. But the instructions are all within R3D Data Manager).

R3D Data Manager is my default for moving Red files on set, since it does checksums as well as copying to up to 4 drives simultaneously. That alone justifies the $79 purchase price. There's also a nice GUI for using REDundead, that's not bad so long as you read through everything it's telling you.

Granted, it's no guarantee that it will get your files back. But if it does help, it's more than worth the price of admission.

Granted, I've never received an error -36, so I have absolutely no clue if REDundead is the right answer at all.

Jon, I had the same issue last week. I was using eSata, but then tried FW800 and it worked. While it was slower it doesn't matter because I got the files back.

    thanks guys for your input,

Nick, last I checked R3D data manager did not work on lion? My laptop runs lion, where my CC suite is still on snow leopard. If it's lion ready, I'll jump on that!

Tried that Curtis. On 2 different machines. Even took the drive out of the inclosure and put it in one of my bays in my MacPro to make sure it was not the inclosure causing that problem. Defiantly some drive failure I'm getting. I also heard, error -36 is more of 10.6 and 10.7 problem, and not much of a 10.5 problem.

Oh well, Production is getting it checked out now by "computer people"?
