There was a nice panel with all the major lens makers at CiniGear Exp in LA last weekend. I saw Ted walking around the next day but the day of the panel RED was not on stage as it should have been, nor did they have a presence at the expo which was disappointing. We love to see RED at these events. Sure you have a store down the street but the RED store is very small and has a limited selection of gear to demo, certainly nothing in a prototype phase. We missed RED this past weekend and we missed all the new gear we weren't able to demo.

After asking the moderator at the end of the panel discussion, he said he invited RED to the panel but they didn't respond. Sounded a bit odd, why would RED not join a panel of the six major lens producers. ARRI, ANGENIEUX, ZEISS, FUJI, COOK, CANON? Now I am thinking, "do I invest in RED Lenses, are they a serious player in the game?" This isn't the first time RED lenses haven't showed up. The SALT II thread on this forum did not include the RED lineup. What's going on here?

I learned a lot from hearing these guys discuss the current condition of the market, the problems with 6k and lens compatibility, the difficulty in making the glass and their inability to keep up with demand. I heard from the major players, where is RED at?

In regards to the SALT II tests the purpose was to test still lenses adapted, converted, or modified for cinema use. The only reason we had the Optimos there were as a control target. It wasn't due to a lack of Red cooperation at all. In fact Evin got a the loaner prototype Nikon mount to help out with that test.

No one from CineGear asked me to be on a Lens panel. We were asked to assist in locating a DOP for another panel, which I did, but then he got called for an EPIC movie and couldn't make it (he's a big A list DOP) I gave them a healthy list of other DPs that could fill in, and they were all working on EPIC gigs as well :-)

    Exactly what Phil said.
    Will,
Your post is ill informed and misleading.
