  1. #1 THE LINE -- starring James Rebhorn

My first film. Shot on RED ONE by the amazing Till Neumann. This film stars someone who many will simply know as "that guy" from The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Game, Independence Day, Scent of a Woman, White Collar, Homeland, Real Steel, and many others. His name is James Rebhorn and his work in this film deserves to be seen. It was a rare treat and a gift to work with such a talented and gracious individual. He offered nothing less than the full range of human emotion and was able to deliver it on the spot, without batting an eye. I'll never forget the experience and I'm grateful for everything it has taught me.

Now gearing up for a new short film called '(re)Conception' to be shot this summer on the RED EPIC, DP'ed by my good friend Ryan Browne. At the same time, I've just released 'The Line' on vimeo for the world to see. The feedback I received on the festival circuit was tremendously valuable and hugely influenced the writing of my new project—but I'm still hungry for more comments and critique! Your thoughts/feedback greatly appreciated. About a month and counting before I start the process all over again...! Thx. -Joe Petrilla

Excellent work Joe and nicely shot/directed/edited. Will be interested to see what you churn out on your next short.

Wow, amazing job my friend, I even sensed a little Malick in the flashbacks.
    Congratulations.

I humbly admit the Malick influence. Much of his work is deeply moving to me. The voiceover and follow shots are certainly the clearest dead give-aways. This film was an experiment in non-linear storytelling that I think was partly successful, partly unsuccessful. Its a tough "line" to tow, between accessibility and ambiguity/abstraction. I learned a lot this time around that I'm hoping to apply to the new piece. We'll see how it turns out! Thanks for the feedback thus far. Great to hear from other filmmakers.
