    Hi guys

A client is asking me to send her all the raw footage, plus all the footage converted to ProRes 422 HQ (or LT) so that she can edit on FCP. However, I tried to convert the footage in Redcine X Build 14 and after selecting quicktime, I looked at the setup and I couldn't find the option for ProRes 422. There were Avid codecs, because I have Avid running on the comp I assume. Do I actually need to have FCP to convert r3d to ProRes 422? I don't have FCP running on my comp.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

HI Mike, you need to have the ProRes codecs installed before you can use the codec. Below is a link to the ProRes codec. It used to get installed with FCP7 but not with FCPX. You needed to install them separately. I believe if you do try to install from this link, and you do not have FCP-7 or FCP-X it might not let you do it...

    hope that helps.

Did I also mention I have a PC?

Sorry Colin, but it looks like I need a Mac to do this. Thanks for you time and help though, I appreciate it.

ffmpeg allegedly supports prores encodes on PC. Never tried it myself, and I'm not sure about r3d support in ffmpeg, so no promises.

    Best,
    Tim

ffmpeg is not great - not ready for primetime.

If you have only PC, get Cineform, or output DPX - then bring that to a post place. Will probably cost you $50 for conversion dumped to your drive.
