  1. #1 anybody had experience with an Areca ARC-5040 8-bay Raid ?
    hi all

I'm seriously considering the 5040 as a mass storage device for the ocean of data flowing out of my Epic.
It's not for editing just offloading footage from SSDs into one place instead of the multiple bare drives it's going to now.
    I'll be connecting via eSata.

has anyone had any experience with this unit ?

I've got an Areca controller card in the MacPro and it has been very good so I'm assuming this should be good to.

    any thoughts/experiences greatly appreciated.

I have a similar one made by Maxx Digital that is 16tb in a sas config.

Works great with the Areca controller card. Very fast.

I know Areca make good controllers, I was hoping someone might have had some experience with this particular enclosure. reviews seem kind of hard to come by online...

I'm not entirely sure which side of the pond you are, but Rentaraid (www.rentaraid.co.uk) have these incredible packages with Areca Raid controler cards.
