    Wow... what a thread.

Capitalism, by its definition, depends on capitol. We are now in Debtism... a debt driven economy.

Everyone has an opinion... as do I. I just won't share it here...

Don't get me wrong I know RED can't single handedly save the economy, though I suppose the threads title dose say otherwise. I agree with Jim that we have become a debt driven economy. I had created this thread out of my frustration that we are no longer a production based economy but instead a speculation based economy where companies make their money by gambling on if companies that make things will be successful or not. While this can be a sign of a healthy economy, it is not a stable base for an economy to grow or recover with. I wanted to express that one of the reasons I love RED is because the make something and that I think they are doing it right by investing in making an amazing product and smartly marketing it. Honestly, how many of you ever though you would ever buy a $15,00+ or $35,000+ camera package during a recession?

I think camera guys are uniquely qualified to talk about these issues. At our hearts we are all entrepreneurs. We have to weigh the risk/cost of investing in gear and improving our skill sets with the rates we charge productions for using our gear and having us work on their sets. We have to think about how to market our skills and talents as well as convince productions the cameras we own are the best for the job. I was blessed when i was in college and my economics class wasn't just about learning terms but focused on us thinking about how to use the degree we were getting in our particular field of study in an entrepreneurial manner.

I want to thank everyone for voicing their opinions in the respectful manner they have. I know any discussion about the economy or politics can be a bit dangerous and divisive. But this is because we are talking not just about our lively hood and futures, but the prospects of future generations.

Too bad the politicians (both sides) don't get it.

Debtism is capitalism personified. Capitalism without ethics is a thief.

I think you just did. :) And I think your opinion is valid, dept is bad, building up your own capital is good. So many things you can do wit large capital that you could not possibly do with a huge dept.
