    Hi all,

we shot what I understand to be the world's first Epic 3D wedding last week, using our Genus Hurricane lightweight rig with Canon EF prime lenses. I controlled both cameras using the RedMote controller to set focus points simultaneously on both lenses, and although you can't really pull smooth focus you can definitely set both lenses to the same focal point and then go forward with fixed focus.

I'm DYING to get the RedMote Pro though!!! Will gladly beta test if anyone at Red wants to send us a prototype.... ;)

We ran most of the wedding on Steadicam, operated by Benjamin Casias, using the EF24mmL MkII and EF50mmL primes. Mostly we were at f8 or more and the Epic's dynamic range definitely helped get some very challenging shots without any issue (forests, hard sunlight and deep shadows really showed off just how much latitude these cameras have!).

Needless to say, the footage looks AMAZING! Can't wait to finish the edit and 3D conform. Here is the teaser trailer (make sure you watch it in 3D 1080p if you can) :

We will soon be upgrading our rig to the new ScreenPlane Steady-Flex, along with the Cmotion Cvolution follow focus system, so future 3D weddings are going to be even better!

    Cheers from San Francisco,

    Paul :)

Nice work, Paul. What was it like having a steadicam at a wedding?

    Definitely interesting! :D

It does stand out so the whole blending in aspect of wedding photography pretty much goes out the window! But the shots and ability to move around without the intrusion of tripods etc makes up for it I think.

With the new Screenplane Steadi-Flex rig we'll have a much more compact and lightweight rig than this wedding (something the Steadicam operators will really appreciate!) so we'll be less conspicuous than before.

The saving grace on all this is that we are there because the bride and groom want this service, and are therefore aware of us being there for them first and foremost.

We also believe that with the ability to pull 5K stereoscopic stills from any frame of the video, future 3D weddings we shoot will probably forego the stills photographer entirely, meaning we won't be competing for the same angles or shots, further making us as organic as possible to the day.

Cheers for the question and feedback!

    Paul :)

    Hi Paul,

Can you tell me why would some married couple would want their wedding in 3D? Do you have certain elements in the wedding that come flying through the camera or screen like the bubbles in the one shot or wedding flowers thrown by the bride at the camera?

Sorry, I can't see this a big deal...but maybe so?

    Nice work.

    Hi Paul,

How did you manage to match your lens pairs? Do the Canons match well out of the box or did you have to do a lot of matching and selecting?
