    Hello All,
I noticed that my v 3.0.7 Epic M (not upgraded yet) needed a black shading callibration, so... I set (or left) the Current Cal Map selection on "Factory" and executed the procedure as I have normally done dozens of times before. However, when the procedure was complete, I noticed that the Current Cal Map selection had changed by itself to "User HS" and when I placed it back to "Factory" to inspect the image condition at a higher ISO nothing had changed - it still needed a black shading callibration. However, when I switched the Current Cal Map to "User HS" it appeared as though that was the one that was callibrated. It looks great. So, for the life of me I cannot black shade in "Factory" - just "User HS"!

Yes, I had the metal Red PL cap on, the SSD was formatted (I tried different ones too), I restored the system settings, I reloaded the firmware v 3.0.7, even rolled back a firmware just to try just to see what would happen but to no avail. I am still waiting for a reply from Red Tech support (via email and phone). Anyone seen this before? Is black shading callibration via "Factory" not enabled yet? Any other suggestions/input?

I think i have only black shaded once in 5 years... Only becuase I was curious to see how to do it.

Grey (ish) blacks in your EVF / touch screen or field monitors should not be mistaken as being needed to BLACKSHADE.

Check your footage in RCX / base light, Scratch, Premier, photoshop or resolve on a proper calibrated monitor to determine if you need black shading.

    Here's another side to blackshading:
I setup for a job and did not blackshade since i was coming off a job in mexico....then went to Ecuador where water was far cooler...came out of the water on day one and did not notice anything....then reviewing footage later that evening i saw some strange images in the red channel--completely freaked me out....after thinking i had a bad video board and trying to correct the image/ re-download material...I finally black-shaded and then that strange image (what looked like an image burned into a plasma monitor on about 1/3 of the image)....just went away...NOW it is my practice to black-shade before EVERY single job even if i just came off a job days prior and i do it in the environment i'm working....had i not noticed that burned image...i'd have had 10 days of screwed up images....

...so, sometimes you feel like a nut and sometimes you don't....i'm an almond joy kind a guy and maybe Mark is a mound guy...
