The reason Apple is still pushing old gear is that people keep buying the old gear. If you don't like it, go with something else. Go back to windows. Don't just sit here and complain about it all day.

I don't know, it just seems like folks want an upgrade but no one is very specific about what they expect it to be.
Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 for more IO options and speed would be an amazing bump in specs, even if the processor, RAM, and storage were unchanged. IO is a huge hurdle, especially with all the DATA that we are pushing back and forth.

    specifics:
thunderbolt ( should have been done when apple laptops got them)
usb 3.0 ( should have been done when PC's got them)
more pci slots (should have kept up with offerings from PC)

now when i say "should have" I don't mean to tell apple what to do, they know how to make money. I just mean that they should if they want to be seen as technologically forward thinking and competitive in the pro market.

    WTF????

On the We Want a New Macpro
New Mac Pros are on the store?!?
    (Yes that's a question mark)

Someone apparently got a reply back from Tim Cook:

Frans-Jozef Stapelbroek Got an email back:

    Franz,

Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn't have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today's event, don't worry as we're working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.

We've been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.

We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.

    Tim

    How's this for specific:

    1. We want the same CPUs that you can find in PC workstations currently.
    2. We want the same Graphics cards that you can find in PC workstations currently.
    3. Additional expansion slots and RAM slots would be nice (like what current PC workstations have)
    4. USB3 would be nice.
    5. Thunderbolt would be nice.

Terry, this is a company with more cash reserve than the US government and you are going to defend them by saying their hands are tied because some processors aren't available?

If they had any desire at all to offer a relevant product what's stopping them from putting in Thunderbolt, USB 3, SATA 3, New graphics cards, Better speakers, Bluetooth 4.0, WIFI, an SD card reader? Or maybe get really crazy and go with a different hard drive bay layout allowing both 2.5'' and 3.5'' drives and more of them, or a totally new chassis design with maybe more efficient cooling, better acoustic properties. Or even maybe they could come up with something none of us have even thought of but would totally appreciate once we had it? There are plenty of things they can implement to make the machine significantly better than it is besides on the processor end.

Apple have the best designers on the planet and virtually infinite resources. They claim to be innovators and the makers of great products but this is a machine that basically hasn't changed in more than a decade. Whats the point of more cores and faster processors when the rest of the system is trapped in the past? They can do better. They just have chosen not to. Why defend them?
