on the bright side i hear FCPX is going to be available for ipad
As far as real-world FCP X editing, I would offer this blog post of mine:
http://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/20...re-with-fcp-x/
FWIW - X does fine with ProResHQ and 4444 (from Alexa) among other codecs. I've also dabbled with 4K ProRes files converted first in RCXP, but purely for testing. Official RED support (unsure of what form that will take) is slated as a feature for the next update later this year. That's publicly announced info from Apple.

@ Oliver
I was thinking of giving FCPX a drive, heck for $300 why not, until I read your link.
Those work arounds you describe & lack of "Rock solid" audio sync are killers for me. I noted how FCP 7 was used in the workflow of the project, surely that says something about exactly where FCPX is right now. I also noted this was a 5D/C300 project so I can't help but think the problems you encountered would be amplified with R3D files. Anyway it hasn't turned me off buying FCPX entirely but just reconfirmed this system is still not "solid" & needs alot of planning, frustration & righteous anger to get the most out of ; ) .
In regards to the OP's question. I'll leave the specs for others.....
I can't wait for new Mac Pros

I can understand the angst towards FCPX. I guess some of us were lucky enough to learn without the feeling of abandonment from Apple.
Hey I was there when Adobe pulled the plug on Premiere on the Mac.
Thank god we had Media100 at the time even though it was on its way out.
I think this whole Apple fiasco was great for NLE folks since it got Avid cheaper (crossgrades) and Adobe serious.
Trust me before all this, Adobe played the blame game with their fight against Apple and QuickTime.
CS3 and CS4 had one of the worse upgrade paths that Mac users and at times Windows had to endure.
Premiere Pro and After Effects both buggy as hell and Adobe never bothered to return any of my (a dozen a day) crash reports.
If you read back the old forums I wasnt the only one.
We are all in a great position these days.
CS6 is getting traction, Avid hasnt moved the price on Symphony (we used the Crossgrade from FCS3) to date and Apple being Apple just left most of us something to chew on.
Its business folks nothing personal.
I guess being in a multi-platform and cross software environment helps my dept not get all bent out of shape about silly things such as this topic.
