  1. #1 Upgrade v3.2.16 - Camera Comatose! Help!
Being naturally nervous about my first Scarlet upgrade, I studied the upgrade text to the point of memorization. Here's the process I followed and the result ~

    - Downloaded 3.2.16 upgrade and instructions
    - Copied "Force Upgrade" to freshly formatted and erased MAG after first confirming my Macbook pro (17" 2-yr old) allowed read/write to MAG
    - Safely ejected MAG from Red Station before removing MAG and placing it in the powered down Scarlet
    - Powered up "Buffy" and noted fan at full and blinking green Power and Record buttons as expected, HOWEVER... rather than the 45 seconds projected in the upgrade manual, the fan and blinking lasted about 9 seconds and the camera shut down.

After removing the MAG and waiting ten seconds, I powered up and the display only made it as far as the Black/White split screen. I've powered down and rebooted, but to no avail - no information comes up and the screen remains split Black/White, a stage it's always passed through during boot up, though usually only briefly.

Sooo... Buffy is comatose and I'm frantic in wanting to revive her. What went wrong? What do I do now?

    Thanks, benevolent RED Siblings!

i always remove sidehandle, redmote, lens for upgrades. have never had an issue. my firmware updates are like yours. high fan speed lasts around ten seconds. not to worry. make sure you format the ssd also. Im sure thats not a huge help, but that problem is pretty common from other users.

PROBLEM CORRECTED!!! After leaving the camera powered down for ten minutes, I powered up and all is normal. I confirmed that it's now running v3.2.16.

I'm still curious as to why the wild ride; the upgrade time was less than ten seconds and first few attempts to boot up were unsuccessful. Shared thoughts or experiences appreciated, but in no way mandatory.

I would load firmware onto a fresh mag and try it again. It usually works.

Time of update varies depending on what firmware you currently have installed.

    Thanks Matt,

I had 3.0.0, so I expect there wasn't very far to go. Feeling verrry relieved and verrry grateful right now!

    Cheers!

    Thanks Domenic,

Forgot to mention I'd already pulled the side handle before starting anything. Anywho, it's now working beautifully and the newly upgraded and paired RedMote is likewise running smoothly. (Whew!)

    Cheers!

I had the black and white screen too after install. Was worried but after I shut down (via the power button not the screen), it turned off and when I powered it up, it came to life. Now the weird thing was that after checking the firmware was installed and checking all my settings, I shut it down and then powered it up again. The black and white screen came back. Again, I powered down and powered it up again. It came to life.

Not sure if this is gonna be an ongoing problem but I'll have to see. That black and white screen is definitely a concern. Not sure what it stands for.

Don't know if you did this but I use a power supply always now for my updates, and when Im finished I unplug the power connector, and wait a few seconds with not battery or power of any type going to camera...over 10 seconds. for what ever I don't really know but I have seen other electrical devices have power after unplugged for quite a while..The put it on the power supply again and power up.
Never had a problem after doing it this way.

Your upgrade procedure was correct. There is no reason for concern if the upgrade only takes 10 seconds or so. I think the 45 seconds in the instructions is left over from when upgrades used to take longer.

The half black half white on your monitor is not a result of a failed upgrade. It is unfortunately a bug introduced in 3.2.x that affects some people. Note that this bug only affects the LCD monitor - it does not mean the camera is hung or otherwise malfunctioning. We are working on a solution. In the meantime there are a few work arounds you can try like unplugging the LCD and plugging it back in. Others have said entering and exiting magnify fix the problem for them. Of course, you can always go back to 3.0.x if you'd rather wait for a fix - we will put a clear item in the release notes once we believe it is solved.
