REDMAG reader not mounting via FW800

Brand new reader (standard, not mini), out of the box never worked with FW800. Tried on several machines and million different cables. Nothing. USB works fine.
Does anybody have a fix or do I need to return it? Did anybody ever just take stuff back to be exchanged to the Red Studios Store?

via my laptop I can use with out power. ? Go figure .

Mark, I meant to say I used the power adapter from the get go and got nothing. Going to the Red Studios tomorrow to pick up some bits and pieces, I may just take it back.

It sounds like a faulty unit. It should work even just bus powered from Firewire, although RED recommend using the external power supply as well.
