I can't live without my Sidehandle, I don't even detach it from the camera. Ever.

It's just so much faster to operate the camera with it.

You should detach it when you upgrade firmware. That's the only time I ever detach mine. Love the sidehandle.

Brad, actually not anymore — from 3.2.16 you should only detach your Redmote if you have one. My last upgrade went smooth with Sidehandle attached to the body.

You can use the side handle without redvolts correct? Since I already have V-Mount batteries and only want side handle for the controls and grip I dont see a reason to buy red volts if I dont have to (other then to hot swap I guess)

Congrats on your purchase of the Scarlet!!!

You'll be very happy with your purchase, but there's a learning curve to get thru, as it's not a DSLR.

This thread might be helpful to get down the learning curve on noise (bottom line, the camera shoots great noise free videos, but you have to understand how to operate it).

Correct. You can operate the side handle without a redvolt if you have an other power solution.

Welcome ... you've made a right choice in a very fragmented & evolving market .

IMO I would be getting a side handle ( depends on what your shooting I guess classic cinema style maybe not ). Be aware the side handle with latest Software update 3.16 now has a whole lot of new functionality which is faster to operate than the touch screen. Like the "+ - rocker" switch now controlling Iris. Also with various programmable soft key functions I believe in many respects it is now more versatile than the touch screen.

I would recommend, SSD Drive with Programs and Windows on it, GTX580 or higher, and the new Ivy Bridge chips. Along with CS6, it's stupid how well everything handles.
I'm having a system built in a few months and this is exactly the route I'm going down. My friend has the i7 3960X Extreme paired with the GTX 580, 32gbs Ram and everything on SSD drives. It powers through 4k & 5k footage without a hitch

Thought I'd post real quick. Brains came in today, still waiting on side handle but everything else is here. Love it already. I put it side by side with my AF100 and the difference in dynamic range is ridiculous. Much heavier then I expected I'll be honest but I like it.

I instagramed it earlier for FB of course haha
