I put an order for the Rouge lenses with Abel back in October 2011. They told me they would be here April 2012. Now they are saying September for the wide and January 2013 for the telephoto. Now they aren't sure about the tele. They predict 6-12 months from now or my order in October. Theyre that backordered! Craziness...

Forget it Rick- they are way overpriced. Tons of beautiful lenses in this FL range for under $2K

Yes but all the issues that come with using still lenses... Breathing, not holding focus, etc.

That's why they cost less than 10% of the price of the rouge and less than 5% of the optimo

Right, but if you need the features that those still lenses don't have, then their cost doesn't really matter.

Rick, that does seem like a long wait. I didn't realize the Rouge lenses were that far behind. Anything out there on the used market? Probably not a lot I'm sure but maybe you get lucky and snag one long before the new ones finally ship.

There is only one feature that these lenses do not provide. One. Everything else is FUD, poor maintenance and operator error.
You can't zoom while recording. That's it. Variable prime application only.
    On the other hand:
    1. Internal motors so no external motors or mechanical FF necessary. Or iris.
2.Encoder feedback for all three axis. Standard on all lenses and automatic. No programming, manual data input necessary.
    3. Image stabilization (any cine lenses have it?)
    4. 60-70% lighter and smaller than their cine counterparts.
    5.And yes- 90% cheaper.
But no- you don't get the allure of cine brand name or PL lens bragging rights-I thought we were past that on this forum-I guess not...
Just kidding guys- I'm the last one to bring that up- I was raised on cine lenses work first at Panavision and then other PL based manufacturers and such...
But times-they are changing- optics are too...

Jacek, I'm a still lens believer (have your Nikon mount firmly planted on my Red One). But still lenses are not perfect for every situation. Trust me, if the Rouge lenses were $15,000 cheaper, I'd buy them in a heartbeat. Generally, I just like the mechanics and the quality usually associated with PL lenses. For my situation, I buy still lenses for my cameras, and rent PL glass. It's good to have choices. :-)

Good points combined with Toia's rants on Canon glass. When Fuji starts to deliver in quantity then Angie will have to get off their ass. Whoever is in charge of forecasting and production planning over there in Parie needs to take a permanent holiday. Who did not see this demand coming?

While we're misreading industry demand . . . how about someone develop and produce in quantity a mid-level priced set of Anamorphic glass? Why just jacked up Russian antiques at gouge prices? Does anyone else see this?
