While we're misreading industry demand . . . how about someone develop and produce in quantity a mid-level priced set of Anamorphic glass? Why just jacked up Russian antiques at gouge prices? Does anyone else see this?
First someone needs to produce square sensor or the anamorphic doesn't make sense. Using standard anamorphic on wide screen produces aspect ratio that won't fit any screen. Mild 1.3x anamorphic does not produce the effect desired.
IMO- no square or 4:3 sensor- no anamorphic

Actually don't understand a thing about it. You just simply can't order them if you need some. Have been trying to get some for 2 years now.
These waiting lines are just a complete joke actually. But at least that's anno 2012 quiet protecting the market against itself.
While camera prices are dropping, lenses remain their value, that's the positive side about it.;)

16 month delivery time for my Cooke S5i's. I don't think this is unusual for quality like this. They are not mass produced (thankfully).

Have you guys checked the availability of the LEICA Summilux-C™ Primes? I spoke to my rep at Band Pro and he says if you order today, and did not get on the waiting list with a 10% deposit when they were first announced, the wait is 3 years.

You can't zoom while recording. That's it. Variable prime application only.
    On the other hand:
    1. Internal motors so no external motors or mechanical FF necessary. Or iris.
2.Encoder feedback for all three axis. Standard on all lenses and automatic. No programming, manual data input necessary.
    3. Image stabilization (any cine lenses have it?)
    4. 60-70% lighter and smaller than their cine counterparts.
    5.And yes- 90% cheaper.
But no- you don't get the allure of cine brand name or PL lens bragging rights-I thought we were past that on this forum-I guess not...
Just kidding guys- I'm the last one to bring that up- I was raised on cine lenses work first at Panavision and then other PL based manufacturers and such...
But times-they are changing- optics are too...
    Nice one JACK... :)

I have way better luck purchasing second glass these days.. People over extend them selves with purchasing expensive glass all the time. Just drop WTB posts all through the camera forums. You will be surprised.
Ive got some amazing PL glass online and amazing prices. Waiting for a year and paying full wack is bullshit unless it's something unique... RED EPIC 'M's in the early days were just that.

PS... We bought a couple those RED 17 to 50 PL zooms and RED 50 to 150 PL zooms for fun.. We did not realize at all that they would end up becoming our main lenses for almost 80% of our bigger projects. We uses to use the small Rouge lenses... Havn't used it for 2 years now. Oh and the RED lenses are sharper. (by a fraction)
    Food for thought.

Thanks Mark. Great insight. I really value your opinion on these boards and enjoy your enthusiastic posts about gear and how to get the most out of it. I own a prime set that I love already, just looking to expand with some zoom lenses. I've always like the optical look of the 18-50 but never the mechanics. I had a lot of issues in the early days. It looks like Red solved that issue with the 17-50 so it's for sure worth considering. I guess I'm looking at the Angenieux as a return on investment deal but at the end of the day, I'm a filmmaker, not a rental house. Do you have any work online that you're proud of with those Red lenses?

Took 8 months to get my Optimo 16-42. Ordered it right after NAB 2011, got in January 2012. Might consider selling it at some point. But it's a great zoom. Still waiting on my 30-80, well over a year and counting. Sheesh.

I got my 16-42mm in the spring of 2010 and was shipped to me in two days. The 30-80mm I got in the fall of 2010 and waited 3 days. For me it worked out great as I have been renting them non-stop due to the shortage. They have also been on 42 episodes of a series that I DP and direct on.

But I do have to say that during the first season of the series I used the original RED 18-50mm on the steadycam and it cut well with the Optimo zooms we had an A and B camera. I think the glass on the RED lenses is very good, but they do not rent very well. They are a great and inexpensive choice for owner/operators.
