    Hi guys,

I really need a 0.9 IRND filter (screw-in 77mm) for an upcoming project.
Read all the threads on Reduser about IRND filtration but still have my doubts.

I was able to narrow down my choice to:

    1. Formatt 77mm Hot Mirror/Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 HD Filter
    2. Schneider 77mm MPTV Platinum IRND 0.9 Filter

Has anyone used any of those? I really want to avoid crazy tints and have IR contamination free image...
I am leaning towards Formatt myself.

    Thanks you your thoughts,
    Kamilla

A 3 stop ND filter should not require IR rejection and most good quality brands should be OK.
It is at the higher filtration rations that IR contamination can become a problem.

    Hi Pawel,

thanks for your response, however from my tests I can clearly see that when I use 0.9 regular ND filters (I use Tiffen) my footage suffers from IR contamination in usual problematic areas therefore I am looking for a solution.

    Hi Kamilla,

I think many people on here will vouch for the Schneider Platinum IRNDs. I haven't been able to get myself a set because they came out right after I bought $900 worth of rectangular glass filters that I now can't seem to get rid of.
In fact, two of these filters were the Formatt IRNDs that you mentioned. I can say that the Formatt will be an improvement over the Tiffen filters, but I think that the Schneiders are still going to be the most color-accurate. Hopefully someone who has used them can give us an opinion.

I have a set of 4x5.5 Schneider IRNDs and I would imagine there is no difference between them and the 77mm versions. I like the Schneiders, and they're available from B&H in 77mm. Been meaning to pick one up myself for my Canon glass when I'm running without a mattebox.
