    I feel you man.

Windows 7 is stable, I will miss time machine, finder etc

But for a workstation, when doing edit on n number of screens, its the software that matters.

After they f***ed up with FCPX, people started shifting their software choices (I have both Avid Symphony 6 and Adobe CS6 MC, both of these work on windows 7) Its just made the transition easier.

My MP 09 is getting all clogged with 5K native edits and finishing. :-(

Adobe works better on Nvidia cards, with the Cuda hardware acceleration.
If you want to get 100% out of your engine, Nvidia is the way to go for Premiere Pro 6...
It will still work on ATI(AMD) but only software acceleration.

Not true. With CS6 there's OpenCL hardware acceleration with ATI cards, but it's limited compared to what you get with CUDA.

    Hello Asif,

I'm in the planning stages of building a workstation and is probably going to follow a similar motherboard/processor(s) combination. I'm assuming you installed Windows 7 64bit? How are things running for you? Did you have any unexpected obstacles to overcome? If you could do it again, would you change anything? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi Michael,

There was delay from SuperMicro, I have all the components just sitting there with no Motherboard and Chassis. Tomorrow, is when I will get the remaining components. Will update issues and benchmarks soon.

Awww, that's the part I excitedly dread, both getting all the cool components and not being able to test the parts until the other parts come. Definitely not for the squeamish. Best of luck Asif, have a great time putting all the parts together and I hope all goes well! I look forward to hearing the details.

My BT Rocket arrived yesterday and now need to build a computer around it. Probably going to start ordering parts for my workstation in a week or so, still much research to conduct, but eager to see the Rocket in action around a killer set-up. Gotta prep for 6K!

I made the leap about 3 months before the FCP X launch ( I must have been seeing the future pretty well! ) and after over 10 years of Mac loyalty, I left. It was hard on my brain, but I built a system myself (my first) that was SO EFFING FAST for not a lot of money. It cost me $1800, is basically an i7 950 based gaming rig, does 4k/5k editing real time with cs5.5. I use a GTX460 (not supported officially, but easily added to the list for a hack) to accelerate Premiere Pro, and it JUST SCREAMS. My current job is getting me a new mac... no choice... so its Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection on a new MacBook Pro for me. But my home system is still amazing.

Asif, you will be very very happy. Looking forward to your results!
