  1. #1 Offloading from RED Sation directly to eSATA External Drive
Does any one know if I plug a External Drive like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...ed_XL_2TB.html

Using the eSATA connection on the RED Station, will I be able to transfer the files, bypassing the firewire 800 interface on a Macbook Pro? will the laptop be able to see the the External Drive, if it`s not directly plugged on the laptop?

    Thanks!

No, the RED Station will not offload without the use of a computer. You need to use a computer to copy the files from the REDMag (drive) to your backup drive.

I'd highly suggest R3D Data Manager or another program that does a checksum during the copy process.

    Hi All,

I don`t know if I made it clear, but the plan is to connect the RED Station to the MacBook Pro via Fire Wire 800 or USB port (so it would be recognized by the laptop) and the External Hard Drive directly to the RED Station eSATA Connection, so I could take use o eSATA speed when offloading to the drive.

The problem with the Lacie HUB is that it is not avaliable on B&H yet.

I was not aware that a Data Manager software should be used.

    Thanks

You can't use the firewire 800 to esata to daisy chain, and even if you did, you would still be limited to the firewire speeds of the drive your offloading to.
Lacie hub can be bought on Lacie's site and B&H. I bought one from both sites, just let tell it to notify you when it's in stock again. For MacBook Pro users, there's no faster way to dump footage.

Simply put: data cannot be transferred without passing through the CPU. No exception.

    Simple answer is NO.
You cannot connect the RED Transfer station via USB/FW800 then connect your Lacie XL eSata drive to the RED station.
    It will not recognize.
