Take a look at the latest release from Grass Valley - EDIUS 6.5
I use EDIUS daily and believe it is the best NLE out there for PC. Premiere got me excited with version cs6, but still lacks colour tools and 10-bit export.....all loaded comments aside, it's great to know we have choices as Editors. EDIUS has been the fastest and most reliable choice for me over the years. Since I'm a freelance editor I use them all but find myself coming back to EDIUS time and time again. Not having to render is one thing, but having pro color tools within my NLE is a massive plus.

Here's a walk-though of some of the new features that I think are important....

been using it for about 4 years now for broadcast and tv adds, and must say it has always been more stable then any cs release. However that said, I'll give a try tomorrow on my 32 core beasts when they arrive.
On my current laptop it doesn't get the same speed at all when dealing with epic stuff as cs6 is doing. However, if it would work as stable as it has done for me in the past , hooray. will let you know.

Has anyone done an in-depth review of Edius 6.5 vs. CS6?

On paper, Edius looks amazing...so does Smoke for Mac.

The buzz at NAB was amazing for both..but now a half a year later, I've heard nothing about either NLE, their speed, the functionality and the best hardware to support them.

Before i spend a lot of money on a new system and trade our trusty 18K Mac-based Avid MC 6.5 Nitris system for something more robust and fully featured for our busy editing bay, it would be awesome to see some serious documentation.

    Any feedback would be apreciated!

    Thanks.

You could just download the trial versions of both softwares and see for yourself. I like Edius and it's great for fast turn-around cutting of broadcast material. Yes, it supports R3Ds natively now and seems like it does a fair job of it. I haven't really explored it myself though -- haven't seriously used Edius for a couple years. For more creative editing I would say Premiere CS6 is the winner. You don't hear a lot about Edius around these forums because it's aimed at a different market, not the filmmaker types.

Jeff, I use MC and a little bit of PP. But I have to say that I don't understand why you say that CS6 is more suited for creative (full length) editing than is Edius 6.5? The color correction features that I just watch in Matt's tutorial blow away anything I've seen in any NLE.

In terms of stability, I've conistently heard good things about Edius. Is there some limitation that I'm missing?

Hey Mike, yeah, I should have been more specific. Try exporting a 10-bit or higher TIFF sequence....and without 3rd party codecs (DNXHD, Canopus HQX, etc) I can't seem to get a 10-bit file out of there!

Hey Jeff, it's certainly aimed at those markets and has success there, but that is changing slowly :) And, for the record, EDIUS DESTROYS Premiere Pro for creative/craft editing. Absolutely.

EDIUS's biggest limitation is that when you say "EDIUS" people look at you funny, or don't know what to say. Like Jeff mentioned, it was always a broadcast/news style editor but in the past few versions a lot has changed. Only problem is, the marketing hasn't changed.

I agreed with Matt, people doesn't seem know what is Edius. they think it's NLE like Windows Movie Maker.

Thanks Matt for all the tutorials that you make. I really fun to watch and easy to learn. I've seen lots of tutorials online, the not even close to what you done.

    Keep up the great works.
