I'm noticing that I can only use 2 out of 4 of my REDvolts when I hot swap my bricks. Luckily I label each battery with a number so it's pretty easy to track down which one I can hot swap. But My question is, is this a firmware issue or is this a REDvolt issue? Is anyone else having a similar issue? I would like to be able to do this with all my REDvolts and not have to keep in mind it's only 1 & 4 is hot swappable.

also noticed today that the hot swap didn't work, while the redvolt inside was charged and gave 60% percentage in the menu also... maybe i should investigate this also

Yeah I just don't get why half my REDvolts are hot swappable. They came in the same 4 pack, and I only want to use them for hot swap reasons. So if I rent my camera out, I need to tell the client if there gonna hot swap the bricks only keep REDvolt 1 & 4 in the in side handle? Can we address this in the next build?

Not to pile on, but the inconsistent nature of hot-swappability is unfortunate. I have tried several tests in hopes of pinning down commonalties without success.

Considering the quick boot times these days its hard to complain, but knowing I have fail over to the side handle battery is a terrific feature. I am confident the RedTeam will sort it out soon.

Max is that with all of your batteries or just half of them, like Jon? Jon have you sent your SideHandle in for repair/update or whatever? The SideHandle not hot swapping properly is a known issue that RED fix, I've just never heard of it only working with some batteries and not others... Could be an issue with those specific batteries not being able to handle the immediate jump in power draw when the main battery is disconnected...

It might be the side handle. I just upgraded the firmware to 3.3 and now REDvolts 1-3 are now hot swappable and no.4 is no longer hot swapable. But if I just have the AC tapped all the REDvolts become hot swapable when I disconnect the AC tap. So it's gotta be something firmware wise I'm guessing?

I also find this a annoying problem, it's like a lottery if it will hotswap, you never know, i dont seem to find a constant factor, with the same redvolt inserted, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...

Thank you for this thread. I did not know they were hot swapable, DUH!

Is there a sequence to the red volt versus the Red brick swap?

Ideally with a time lapse it would be nice if the Red brick could be hot swapped while the red volt, side handle was working?

Or is this not what is designed?

    Thank you,

    Kennan

You can swap out REDvolts as much as you want if a brick is attached, cause the camera will read the DC power first. But its a hit or a miss with the volts, I was hot swapping on build 3.3 and it swapped fine, then I did it again with the same batteries, and it failed. its so frustrating. I hate turning off camera on set. I know its boots up quick but it should recognize the battery when you swap.

I had issues as well, but am uncertain if it is side handle, batteries, etc. I'm about to receive the quad battery module and am going to be running a few tests with that vs. the side handle vs. the bricks I have. All the equipment and battery power is first party Red batteries and adapters, so we'll see what happens after this test. I've previously contacted Red and want to determine if I can hold on to the brain and send in just the side handle, for example. We'll see....

Anybody have any updates on their hot swap progress?
