Hello has anyone used this adapter on a Epic or Scarlet?
Is it something to buy or should you go with Red original?

    here is a link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Kipon-ad...06%26rk%3D1%26

I don't know, Marcus, but in the past I got bad experiences with Kipon... but not with red...
think carefully about it, it's not a simple follow focus or matte box, it's the hearth of your system (or something near the hearth...)
with possible problems with backfocus and stuff like that

    my 2 cents, dear Marcus

Go with RED's mount. It's easy to assume that Kipon's mount isn't officially supported or licenced, they even have to blurr the image of the camera... lol
That means you'll loose your warranty by mounting this on your brain, who knows how Kipon protects your camera from damage (like short circuits). And it's probably voiding RED's properties too (the interchangeable lens-mount for RED cams is their design), do you want to support that?

Like Carmine already said, a lens mount is a really essential part of your camera, yo don't want to make compromises here, like you can with a mattebox or followfocus.

RED should consider doing a AL PL mount, just to make those cheap little dumb-adapters obsolete, because i agree, 2000USD is a lot of money for a Scarlet-user.

If you need to go with a PL mount for your camera. Perhaps you should consider the folks at: http://cinemods.com/ They have a simple PL mount for the EPIC/Scarlet, and they have an OCT-19 mount that was approved by RED. This company has also been building mounts for some time and have many happy customers.

Both mounts describe on this thread, be it the Kipon or the Cinemods, are both mechanical mounts with no electrical connections to the camera. At least that is my interpretation of these items.

    My 2 Cents!
