surprised nobody gave their 2 cents yet, but as for as the movie goes thought it was pretty killer. people say the reboot is too soon or unneeded, but as much as I love Sam Raimi, I always thought his versions never did the series justice. (and I disavow the third one) this was pretty much everything a Spiderman movie should have been.

The 3d was excellent, you really got lost in it, and you just became a part of the movie. nothing too annoying or in your face, just molded another level in the cinematography. I know there is the diary of it posted, and the major disappointment for the film with me is that it didn't go through a 4k DI. everything was scaled to 2.5k for the most part except the shots that did a heavy amount of scaling and post zooms. and everything was kept baked rgb log. the rgb log part doesn't bother me as much, but watching it imax 3d, I really saw the immense amount of sharpening they used on a lot of the shots. which I feel like it defeats the point of having such a high resolution acquisition medium. To shoot 5k, just to downscale to 2.5k and blow it back up to a huge screen and have to stack tons of sharpening just to keep it from looking soft.

granted imax is just 2x 2k projectors side by side, but I feel like you gain more out of downsampling on the finish. I'm not sure if Prometheus went through a 2k DI or a 4k DI. but it def did look a lot cleaner and naturally sharper than Spiderman did. didn't see any additional sharpening at all. if there was any it wasn't as aggressive.

Otherwise, Spiderman was the definition of a summer blockbuster. good humor, good characters, big action. some scenes at most felt a rushed, but the pacing was very nice as well. didn't even feel the 2+ hours :)

Agreed Tom. I noticed the edge sharpening too but I'm sure most people didn't care. I prefer superhero movies with only one villain and it's probably why I gravitate to the Spidey character. I really enjoyed the film and it was nice to see the villain with believable motivation. I also thought they did a great job choreographing the fight sequences and giving Spidey a realistic sense of agility. I loved the web slinging action too!

I hear ya, definitely my favorite Spiderman flick to date. They did a good job on it. This isn't the first thread on the flick =P I just saw it tonight and am very glad I did. Made me feel like I was reading Ultimate Spiderman again :) Excited for the sequel.

    Just saw it.

I think overall it was pretty good. Parts that have always bother me in movies are those that I can't buy: In this movie, for example, when Peter Parker enters the "restricted area" inside the building by swiping with his fingers like he's unlocking an IPad, or when the cranes line up in an instant to help Spidy be on his way, you get the point.

3D was OK imho, nothing out of the ordinary.

As far as cinematography, my favorite part were the from-behind one shots when Spiderman "flies" through the city; some clever shots.

Better acting than the first one I thought (except for "Flash"). Also, thought the girl wasn't pretty, although she's a good actor.

I would love for someone to develop the father story a little deeper, and please, how on earth did he make that suit? All of a sudden he's got it.

I just got out of the movie a few minutes ago and I wanted to express my satisfaction. Yes, this is my fav. Spidey flick so far. I really enjoyed the cinematography. It was a little first person shooteresc, which I really enjoyed. But really all I have to say is, whoever was pulling focus on both units knows their gear, fabulous job! I just hate to see soft focus on shots that you know can't be reshot easily, but I didn't see any. Again, great job guys! Oh and of course the acting was a lot better than previous versions, and spiderman's motion sequences were more believeable.

Yes it would have been awesome as a 4k finish, but I read in last months ASC In the Prometheus article that finishing in 4k quadruples the budget, so that's prob why. It probably doesn't quadruple the entire budget, just the editing budget. Soon, there will be plenty of 4k finishes to go around.

Tom, you pretty much took the words out of my mouth.

3d was the in your face, but rather added depth of the film (quite literally in terms of visuals).

Overall really enjoyed the cinematography and lighting of the film. Personally, not being a colorist, I thought the film was the best of any major Hollywood film that I've seen shot on Red thus far. The skin tones, and general hues felt very filmic to me. Hopefully it will dissuade any nay sayers about Red being bad with skin tones. Also Have to say that lighting was spectacular.

The story was a great blend between the different comic arcs. Gorwing up with the animated series, I was always disappointed with the original trilogy. And while this one did not follow that arc, I understand that certain points work a lot better from a film story arc stand point.

This was also probably my favorite part of the film. The action was definitely everything I expected Spiderman to be.

Just saw it last night. By far the best Spiderman to date. It really did the series justice unlike Sam Raimi's versions. And I loved Stan Lee's cameo. Probably the funniest one he's done.

The one thing I didn't like is I didn't feel like NYC was really prominent like in the Sam Raimi Spiderman series. NYC is a character in itself and I felt like in this version it could have been any big fictional city.

I LOVED it. Most enjoyable super hero movie for a while for me. Looked great. Nice to have a villain with a genuine sense of menace at times. But the spidey swinging/flying through the air stuff.... So beautifully realised and just fantastic great fun.
