I have to say I had the exact same issue with FedEx when it comes to their 'administration' charges (not on a red item though).
I ordered some stuff from china and FedEx have this 'express service' meaning they pay vat duties etc and get it sent straight on through customs, then you have to reimburse FedEx. Not a bad system, accepte they chage 5-10% of the orders value for this service. So I opt out of it, knowing that my items will be held at customs where I can contact them directly, pay the duty and have it sent on.
Imagine my surprise when my battered and beaten package comes directly to me, and they 2 weeks later a bill from FedEx that (on top of VAT and import duty) includes a £72 administration charge for a service I specifically opted out of.
I'm starting to think the only company that has any kind of decent delivery service is UPS!
