I have been trying to figure BMD's strategy here - first they made an uber expensive software very affordable and have a FREE Lite version of the same and they also keep upgrading without charging for it (I'm not complaining here). First I thought it was to sell their surface control panels but then they support Tangent and their Element panels which I feel is competing with their product. Was it because of the Camera they are about to release? But then it's not really a PRO camera. Just thinking aloud. BTW I am going to get their camera so if that was whole plan all along then they succeeded :)

It looks like a straightforward business plan to me - Reslove and Resolve Lite sell BMD hardware, as will the camera.
Their core business is selling video cards, and their strategy [much like FCP in the early days] is to establish themselves firmly in the marketplace,
by making their software affordable and even free, in order to sell hardware.
IMHO of course, and it is working for me too - I have ordered a camera, and am considering switching from Avid and Matrox hardware to BMD.

Any news on the v9 release date? Thought that was supposed to be July 2012.

Hm. So Mountain Lion will likely be out before Resolve9, or at least too close to call. But I'm sure there will be plenty of people interested in this upgrade who will shy away from a major update and UI redesign, staying on 8.2.x for a while after 9s release. Thanks for being intentionally granular in your update releases BMD/DVR.

I am wondering if Resolve 9 will release right after Mountain Lion in order to take advantage of some of its capabilities.
