Wow. Please keep me updated. I work for one of the top DI facilities in NYC, and we make DCPs regularly. Keys are absolutely a must, and real-time performance (or faster for encoding) is also crucial. We would love to have a tool that we could use for stereo 2k & mono/stereo 4k DCP as well, as our dedicated hardware system (DVS Fuze) is limited to 2k without costly upgrade.

    thanks,

    John T.

Status, please? Seriously, this can be a life saver for many of us, specially if the price is @ $500. Did I mention to include me in the Beta tester list?

    1. The pricing for software tools have to be around 500,- , i think it is very good, what do you think? They want to make new tools for everyone.

if its a good encode then Id buy this now for $500.

    2. Do you need 3D? Do you need keys? or they have to put out 2 versions, different price, one cheaper and one full... i personaly not need 3D, therefor i was thinking to ask this...

    3D is essential

    3. Player, what about one personal cheaper player, for controling final DCP in window on monitor, and one full player for cinema using - full screen output on secondary monitor, playlist etc.

Id say one player, needs to be capable fore preview.

    4. What are your ideas?

Need to have DCP encryption en have House ID support.

Essential to run on Apple kit and Linux.

I think a subtitling tool is a unique feature for a DCP application

I've been looking into other software and found FinalDCP, at the pricepoint you people are aiming; I think they are the competition to have look at. looks like a good and streamlined application; will know more after I tested it. been playing around with OpenDCP as well; since it is free and as such a good starting point for independent filmmakers. I've been exporting from adobe and so far so good. will be testing the results in local theaters beginning next week

OpenDCP takes a bit more knowledge than FinalDCP and will take more preparation from you since it will allow for less formats for input. OpenDCP does however support stereoscopic, has seperate tab for subtitles, does houseID [in the title generator] and I made a DCP with it yesterday.. will have to test it on a server on monday

OpenDCP does JPEG2000 encoding [allowing logartihmic TIFF], MXF wrapping, RGB/XYZ conversion, MXF wrapping and from that DCP creation both 2K and 4K and quite some different framerates
FinalDCP does so as well but allows input from i.e. Prores, Avid etc. basically drag and drop much more fun when you don't understand everything
there is to know both seem to lack encryption/key management. both seem to lack Player, but FinalDCP has rumored to have announced one in the
    near future

    links:
    http://code.google.com/p/opendcp/
    http://www.magnamana.com/products/finaldcp/

has anyone worked with FinalDCP? it seems pretty nifty, is a very recent product and it supports mutliple rendernodes. been asking them questions about cuda/openCL and I'm waiting
for my 'free' license to test it. will probably buy the Pro license if it works

Well, subtitles and, more importantly, Play-back in Mac is a must. If they would offer those, this is the the answer to many prayers...
