Our very 1st RED ONE prototypes, Boris and Natasha, were just completed. Peter Jackson had offered his interest from the beginning.
I called Peter to ask him who he would recommend to shoot some tests in Hollywood of our 1st cameras. His response was "fly to NZ and we'll do the tests".
So off to NZ we went. Peter shot "Crossing the Line" in 3 days. We showed it at NAB a week later.
Soderbergh saw "Crossing" and told us he "was all in" to shoot Ché on RED. That was months before we shipped the 1st customer's cameras. Ché was shot on prototype RED ONEs.
Soderbergh told Fincher. Fincher shot "The Social Network" and the "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" on RED. Fincher told Wolski (Pirates). Wolski told Schwartzman (Spider-man). Wolski also told Ridley (Prometheus).
The Hughes Bros. saw "Crossing" and shot "Bool of Eli" with Don Burgess. Don then shot several features, including "The Muppets" and "Flight" on RED.
Jeff Crowenweth shot with Fincher... then shot "Hitchcock".
And on it goes... word of mouth. Feature after feature.
