I'm really proud of this one. This is the most recent music video that I shot for the Saddle Creek band Icky Blossoms. Shot entirely on RED EPIC (with the RED ONE as backup camera for a couple of shots). Several shots done at 400 frames per second, which cuts in surprisingly well with the 5K footage when finishing at 1080p. Check it out...

Since we approached this music video more like a short film, it's being picked up by several film outlets. Over the weekend, it made the front page of FilmMaker Magazine...

The video was directed by the band, including Nik Fackler, who directed the feature film "Lovely Still" starring Martin Landau, Ellen Burstyn, and Elizabeth Banks.

WHere did you get that house? Was it a set? How did you pull it off?

The band developed the concept, and then the producers set out to find the house. Ended up finding a house that Habitat for Humanity had taken over and it was going to be more expensive to get it up to code than to just demolish and build from the ground up, so they gave us free reign about a week before it was set to be demolished.

They had not relayed to several people that we were going to be filming that day, so we had some pretty interesting visitors show up... like the guy from the city that came out to turn off the power and a woman from Habitat who came to board up all the windows. They just called their superiors and were happy to come back the next day.

It was 108 actual degrees outside, and with the lights it got up to 120 degrees inside! We actually would walk outside into the direct sun to cool off.

Also, it was COMPLETELY empty, so everything you see in the video was brought in by the art department, so kudos to them for a job well done too!

Kudos indeed - it looks real and the acting is superb. But it doesn't bother you to "show as cool" drinking, drugs AND violent, destructive behavior to younger people? Maybe I'm too Canadian, but I do feel we have a responsibility in this business.

    Excellent!

May I ask what lenses were used? The highlights blended very nicely in high contrast.

Yeah, and all that hip shaking too! The devil's in that rock and roll I tell ya :) Just teasing you Rob, but I think we can all agree censorship would be much worse.

I think this music video was very entertaining and original. I agree the actors did a great job too. It looked fantastic and had a really cool feel and color grade. Slow motion looked awesome and did cut quite well if you ask me. I got nothing but praise and respect :)

    Yeah, that's a forklift tattoo. I wasn't always a cinematographer :)
