If I do not use the AJA card in my workstation I edit 4k with no problem. But as soon as I jump over (dynamic link) to after effects to add some graphic or titles premiere gets long rendertimes before you can playback the clip. As much as I like to stay at 4k all the way to the export, this is not practical for all projects.

Is there a good way in premiere to Edit in 4k and then render the edited media in the 4k timeline to 2k with handles. Import the 2k media to a 2k project and ad titles etc. Then export the final master to 2k.

To summit everything is pretty painless in premiere even to ad graphic but after dynamic linking I get a nasty slowdown.

    Export an XML from Premiere
    Import XML into Redcine X
Redcine-X should conform it into a timeline
In Redcine-X, go to export settings and select "timeline"
When creating a preset, go to the Options tab and adjust default handle size

You can export the files with handles then reconform in Premiere or After Effects before finally ending up in After Effects.

Dynamic link with RED footage is not quite up to snuff at this point. If you are doing graphics and titles in AE I would save yourself the re conform trip and just render out the titles and graphics from AE as a QuickTime with alpha channel. Or you can render out of AE itself by importing the premiere project to AE. But dynamic link is notoriously slow when you have high resolution footage in your timeline, or on any complex graphic work.
