    Hey There,

I have a short sequence in FCP using 720 LT offline clips. I want to grade the sequence in apple colour and can't work out a way.
I also have the light version of davinci light but i don't think the light version handles R3D files.
I can reconnect the sequence in redline x pro to the r3d's but then any attempts at making a xml/edl for colour fail.

any help would be greatly appreciated

The light version of DaVinci supports R3D, but has an output resolution limit of 1920x1080.

Can't help you with the other questions, though.

DaVinci Lite would totally work (I use it with R3Ds al the time) - but you'll just be limited to mastering at 1080p. You can also bring it into Color, assuming the filenames of the offline clips match the R3Ds. You just need to swap the .mov in the xml to .r3d - either using a tool like Clipfinder, or my favorite...find & replace in TextEdit. Then import that xml into Color, and you should be set. Just make sure you have the latest Color plug-in from Red.

That said, I still recommend Resolve if your delivery is 1080p or less. Having used Color for years, Resolve is just more fully featured, and less buggy.

Yep, the lite version handles r3d's, been playing with it for the past couple days. I'm not sure about conforming, but I've edited a seq in premier of r3d files, exported an xml, import to davinci and there it is. start grading. I've neer even opened color. Actually, that's incorrect. I opened it, looked at the interface, said WTH?!? and closed it. Our shop never has done any color correction outside of Final Cut before (no need to) but now with our EPIC, there is a need to.

What's the max resolution that Colour Supports? 4k? Does it work with Scarlet/Epic/DSMC footage or just R1 and R1mx?

Color works with 4k (not sure about higher) Scarlet and Epic files. I had to use color to render out a 4K CC'd trailer to show in a theater. My workflow was this:

Premiere pro--->export to REDCINE X to connect files--->Export from RCX with quicktime wrapper and FCP XML--->Import XML into FCP--->Send to Color

I'm not sure if FCP was a necessary step or not, but it was the most successful attempt that I had. Everything was cake once it was in Color.

    Hope this helps!

I think with the new plugin, anything over 4k (4.5, 5k) is scaled in half so you end up with 2.5k out of epic.

Sam, check the Red.com support section and download the FCP kit. I just did this for an Epic 4kHD shoot and it worked great. Read the instructions in the white paper. It will walk you through the process.

Paul is correct. You'll lose a lot of resolution in Color too. Best option is the full version of Resolve.
