I wonder how people offload their media on location without a second person or a DIT cart.

    What's your workflow like?

I'd like to use the new Macbook Retina and the Red Station USB 3.0.
But where does the media go? Internal SSD first? RAID? Multiple external drives? SATA Docking station?

    Thanks

    Interested in this as well.

I am intereted in building a custom DIT station with the help of explorer cases. They have brackets ready to accept aluminium panels. I think I will go the laptop route as well. I'm looking into the upcoming mini drobo raid. Super affordable and looks very promising. What are the average offloading times via usb 3.0.. How many cards do you need to keep things running smoothly.?

Do we have power on this hypothetical shoot, or does everything need to run off bus power from the macbook pro? Because if we have power that gives us a lot of storage options to choose from in a variety of sizes. Without power your going to be stuck with much smaller external storage options, as the bigger raids can't get enough juice from bus power only. Also it depends how much compression your shooting with and how long a duration of roll time. So there is a lot of factors in this. How big are your mags, too? I mean the more media you can carry in a small foot print, if your methodical you can squeeze by... But a good DIT does much more then offloading media, replacing the rest of their duties is not as easily done

The plan is to shoot during the day and offload the media after the shoot in the hotel room.
    So there will be power.
On the other hand I don't want to have a big RAID because I have to travel the world with that system.

The Drobo Mini looks really nice.
So you would go from the USB 3.0 Red Station directly into the Drobo? (via Thunderbolt)
I'm not sure if that's enough of a protection. I feel like I wanna have three copies of my footage.

I use bare 2.5" drives and transfer from the SSD directly to the drives using the RED Station going through the laptop. This allows me to make as many as I want and send them in different directions if needed. The football (Storm 2500 case carrying exposed "film") contains the RED Station, SSDs, 10TB of drives at 1TB each. I use these cases found at Fry's to hold the bare drives: http://tinyurl.com/cjrg83c

    This was my initial idea.
I thought about using this so I can (maybe) copy to multiple drives at the same time.
