I noticed their is no linux & opensource work flow group, any interest in a linux & open source workflow group?
The threads relating to that group are all over the place ... there are some discussions, like the adobe/linux discussion http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthr...75-Adobe-Linux and openexr pops up a bit discussions, which I'd like to see a lot more of.

I'm not sure people are aware of the major revolution in cinema taking places in this space (atleast from my viewpoint, a lot of the real serious stuff happens in linux &/| opensource) ... so here's a quick list:

http://www.python.org/about/success/ilm/ (goes over python and ILM work flow)
http://opensourcevfx.org/ (good review of some projects)
http://alembic.io/
http://opensource.imageworks.com/ (major committers have been sony and lucus projects)
http://www.blender.org/ (mango and the tomato branch have been adding major vfx pipelines, was a bit more red here but i have noticed this is leaning to sony f65 ... hmm)

On the python front there's also a ton of "mixed" proprieties stuff ... like:
http://www.maxon.net/support/developer-support.html (python integration with cinema4d ... also cinema4d ( as well as autodesk products) run real nice in linux grids)
http://cgkit.sourceforge.net/maya_tutorials/intro/ (ton's of maya python stuff happening ..)

If you don't know what python is:
http://python.org/ (general python stuff)

on cloud processing ...
http://aws.amazon.com/hpc-applications/ (nvidia cloud machines)
http://www.renderfarm.fi/ ( fully open cloud render farm ... tons of other render farms are occurring in this space)

On compression and DI formats:
http://www.openexr.com/ ( open DI standard - especially for vfx/sfx)
http://www.jpeg.org/jpeg2000/ (used in the DCP standards, is real nice for red footage since it's also wavelet based)

Huge amount of professional video tutorials ... just to list the two i use: cgcookie.com and lynda.com

Just a quick recap ... but there is ton's of major work going on in this space, and RED is the perfect camera for this type of workflow. (note also, currently for RED workflow, there is minimal support in linux)
Pipe in if you think we need a group ... either that ... or just some of us have a thread like the underwater guys have?
