i really wish i could help out the community, but alas, unfortunately my project to power the Zoom h4n audio recorder off a larger battery source is not possible. i got a bigger voltage regulator, rated for 5x the output current which delivers the proper voltage but not clean. just long enough to run the audio recorder for a few seconds but then the recorder shuts off not the regulator. there is no heat when using this regulator. so it is the recorders fault and not any of the regulators i have tried, including the radio shack one. after talking to experts, they believe its a stuttered dc output not a pure, which sensitive electric things need. i could clean it up with capacitors, but then i am building a bigger device. back to AAs. look at a mac pro tower, half of the top is an inverter to make pure dc, i cant do it with $10 parts from china, 1-2 inches at most on longest dimensions.
