  1. #1 Z800 and working USB 3 PCIe card
    Hi there,

i try to install a Logilink USB 3.0 card in our Z800, but it only works with USB 2. If i connect a USB 3 HDD it is working about 10 seconds, then disconnect. Conneting again, disconnect. Etc.pp. I tried the new driver from Logilink and another from NEC. Every f***ing manual from the guys who bought it at Amazon and a lot of forum threads. No changes.

Has someone a working USB3 card in his Z800?

As far as I know, its only the Z820 that has the newer technology that supports USB 3

    Hi Fabian

The fact that it works on USB 2 might suggest that you have a bad USB 3 cable.

Fabian is installing a PCIe card that will add USB3 ports to any machine with a spare PCIe slot.

USB3 cards are typically just under $30 from your local electronics source like Fry's or Newegg, etc.

Yeah, doesn't matter what is in the Z800. Any good PCIe USB3 adapter will work. I don't know anything about this Logilink (who?), but I would also agree with Mark on this one. It's working in USB2.0 mode, so I would look at cabling, possibly drivers, possibly device compatibility issues.

FWIW, I'm partial to the CalDigit 6GU3 card. Gives dual USB3.0 and dual 6Gbps eSATA ports. And yes, it works in i55xx series Xeon systems, including the Z800 and 2009~Current Mac Pros.

There are a lot of others that have big problems with the Logilink card and its driver versions. Some say they solved the problem by using a 3rd party driver, for me it wont work. So i try to ask if somebody got a USB3 card working in a Z800.

The fact that the USB3 station connected to a USB2 shows that cable and station are ok. Also the card is working with a USB2 station. So i do need to switch to another card... and thx Jeff for the Caldigit card. But in Germany its hard to find this card and otherwise its really expensive... ;)

Maybe i have to try 5 other cheap cards and send back the non-working ...

I would seriously try another cable first OR test the cable on a known working USB3 device.

Cables are notoriously undependable and cheap ones even worse.

Ive tested a new card from transcend, working fine - but the copyrate is far away from good. About 40-60 MB/sec only :/
