  1. #1 New Sony LUMA LCD 1080/60P
I "think" this will make quite a few people happy :)
Here's a press release from Sony:
Sony Unveils three new re-designed LUMA LCD Professional Video Monitors.

I like how they don't publish the contrast ratio and then pop this quote at the end of the press release:

"The technology allows each model in this series to closely color-match not only other LUMA monitors but also the SMPTE-C, EBU or ITU-BT709 color standards traditionally used in CRT models."

The key phrase here is "closely match". I imagine you could purchase a much lower cost 24" 1080p lcd with an hdmi import that also "closely matches" rec 709 as long as it didn't have a Sony badge on it.

    Good point.

I'm happy with my 23" Cinema Display/HDLink combo.

I'm okay with a 23" Cinema Display/HDLink combo, but since Apple is ready for a refresh on the cinema displays, I'll happily use my 23" for the timeline and put a NEW cinema display with better color reproduction and an HDMI connection to work as the preview when it announces and ships.

Or, if we have the money, buy their new 40" 3K cinema display which hopefully they will announce at the same time as their HDMI ready one (4K is too big of a jump and 3K cards were just announced).

Of course, at this point all of these announcements are just in my dreams, but they are overdue for an upgrade--Come on, Apple, you can do it!

I don't think 4K is too big a jump... 4K panels have been demonstrated from a few manufacturers, although they have all been 46" and larger. Current video cards will drive a 4K display off a single card using 2 dual-link DVI connections. The older discontinued Hitachi QWUXGA panels which made it into the 22" IBM/ViewSonic display had a resolution of 3840x2400, so all but 4K. We should start seeing a shift to higher-density LCDs in the very near future, possibly the end of this year or early '08. Apple and Microsoft are already working resolution independence into their OS updates to take advantage of this.

If I could get a single 36" 4.5K display for my desktop, I'd glady do it and trade in my dual 30" ones. 40" and up is starting to get too big to sit on a desk. I sit about 38"-40" away from my 30" screens as it is.
