I'm looking to purchase a technocrane-style telescoping crane in the range of 20ft to 25ft. Here's the catch. I need this telescoping crane to be able to do moves over timelapse periods of time -- IE, to make a pre-programmed move over a period of, say, 10 hours. Or 8 hours. Or three minutes. I also need it to be able to do real-time moves with an Epic filming 24 frames per second, like any normal telescoping crane would.

Any suggestions? The more portable the crane, the better. Does anyone have ideas for which crane might be best? Does anything like this exist already, or would it require special software, special motors, etc?

(I am NOT looking for information about a single, custom-made crane that already exists in the hands of one person. I am looking to buy a crane from a major crane manufacturer, and then make any modifications necessary).

Twenty to twenty-five feet is a very long way for a crane to telescope AND be portable. I think you're facing physical limitations here if you're really wanting portable, i.e. something you can throw in the back of your Tundra. A jib that I liked the looks of was the Techno Jib 24, but it's no lightweight setup. I'm pretty sure it has the moco kind of setup you're looking for, but it needs a dedicated trailer, not conducive to schlepping hither and yon. http://www.telescopicjib.com/specs/technojib-24.shtml

Yeah I can haul it around on a flatbed or whatever, no problem. I guess the issue is, which manufacturer makes something I can work with? If I can find the right manufacturer, then maybe this manufacturer will have different sizes of crane to look at?

Hi Tom, I would ask directly the company http://www.supertechno.com, it´s the company of Horst Burbulla, the inventor of the tecnocrane. They have a big range of telescopic cranes. I´m sure they modify everything they produce.

I don't think any sort of telescoping crane will do what you want. There is quite a bit of flex and sway in those systems. Not so terrible with live action but I think it would make a real mess out of your timelapse.

The only think I could think of doing what you want is a Milo with the long-arm mod (http://www.mrmoco.com/products/rigs/...-arm/index.php). This thing is f'ing huge, weighs a ton, makes a ton of racket when executing fast moves and is a real bear to deploy buuuuut it will do the job.
