Here's the results of a speedtest I just did.
As you can see the HDD is 90% full.

than it's most likely your usb port. probably thrown in there from first gen model usb 3. they were horrible, and nowhere close to what was promised. a lot better now that the protocol has had some refinement. the banes of a stock pc, you never know where they are shaving price and skimping on parts.

I guess the obvious way to test that would be to see if any other drives reach higher speeds through the USB port..?

Its not early gen usb 3 controllers....its the Fresco ones...
Fresco usb3 chips are first off limited to 1lane pci v1....max 250 mb/sec
And asus loves to use these in there laptops

I cancelled an order for an asus because of this....
If you have a choice..always get nec renesas usb3 controllers....

As reference I'm getting 200MB/sec from Red 512GB to Apple Retina with USB3 when I'm the second usb3 for power. If I dont use the second cable the speed is roughly 120MB/sec if I remember correctly. I will do some more tests today. I'm also trying to optimize offload of data on set.

Didn't we receive an email from Red stating that there is a production fault on the usb3 redstations and that we should NOT use the power connector?

    Andreas,

I am getting 200mb of my Redmag to Retina MacBook without plugging the second USB3 power in?
