Very interesting.
How come BMC managed to get a working Scarlet in under a year, while it took Red 4 years to figure out they couldn't deliver on their promise?
the specs don't actually match the original scarlet concept... let me name what i don't like about it first:
No interchangeable mount, no PL mount natively, doesn't do 3k or 4k... no over cranking....which really kind of sucks...small sensor...
what i do like: price, features relative to price, non proprietary recording media...raw..
Take a closer look at the cameras and engineering, and you will see. I also wonder if the constant demand by the 3k scarlet users for everything under the sun, but only for $3k might have scared RED off. I honestly cannot say for sure. Doubt I will ever know.

I think the same argument that was made prior to the Scarlet being released can be made here as well...
Until its actually released and tested to breaking, nobody actually knows how well it holds up. I think the people who were upset at the abandonment of the Fixed Scarlet program / 2/3 Scarlet program might find that this is a good alternative at the price, but possibly not in the resolution
Only time will tell.
The BMCC is repackaging multiple technologies that BMD already had in house. Off the shelf sensor and hardware for the most part. Must say the image quality is looking pretty good for 2k/1080p at the price of a DSLR. From an interview the development time for the BMCC is more like three years.
I think the Digital Bolex will be a more practical and flexible all around field camera for a bit more money.
Everything about Scarlet was pretty much ground up custom hardware from sensor to ASICS. The camera was working, the lens killed it as it would not hold focus on zoom according to Jarred. I would have been very happy with a simple PL mount version.
Hell even a Nikon mount would have peaked my interest.
