Jarred, do you guys know when this "Thuderbolt 2" is to be introduced? Can we assume its "sort of" a PCIe3 external port? Not much of a computer guy but might seriously rethink my current purchases if thunderbolt 1 gear is to become obsolete soon... It just took off!!

Thunderbolt was being marketed as faster than anything you would ever need so its an understandable mistake. Next version of thunderbolt will be alot faster.. and then things really start to get interesting :)
And I'm certainly looking forward to that! :)

Okay, so I just upgraded to RCXP 16 and cannot get my Tangent Element to work at all. I have all 4 panels and the latest Tangent Hub software installed. In RCXP preferences it says to see the Tangent website about Tanget Tube, but there's nothing there. I did a search and found it's the Tangent protocol. There's nothing in the Tangent software to about being able to configure the panel with Tangent Hub. It's basically like drivers.

I've been using my Tangent Element with DaVinci Resolve and it still stays in Resolve mode. The display on the Tb panels says DaVinci Resolve still. And this is all after shutting everything off, disconnecting everything including power, and restarting.

    Mike and Ramesh,

The Element should "Just Work" if the Hub is running and the element is connected. Please make sure that you don't have any other software open that may be using the Element. If you have Resolve installed and configured to use the Element, you'll likely have to turn off Element support in Resolve when you want to use the Element with RCX. Resolve has the same issue with the Tangent Wave where it completely takes over the device even if Resolve is not running.

We do have a support ticket in with the folks at BMD on this issue, but nothing has come of it thus far.

Also, the TUBE Mapper software is yet to be released from Tangent. As far as I know there's no ETA on it yet but all of the controls will be user configurable once it's released. The last I heard from Tangent, they're planning on releasing the Mac version first, with versions for Windows and Linux to follow.

(I'm having a hard time using the "quote" tab for whatever reason- mountain lion in Macbook pro Retina)

Well, in the end, its the deal with any sort of technology... That's why your Obsolescence obsolete modus operandi is so groundbreaking and is another key factor for our loyalty as costumers :) . Its a matter of if one needs the technology now needs to buy it with the fear of it becoming obsolete soon, or decide to wait for a later one that's better- but with the fear that even that would become obsolete soon. The only difference here is that this Thunderbolt 2 was already announced, and there's a possibility of a fast introduction of said specs, just like what was done with the HDMI specs quick changes which made some 1.1, 1.2 systems obsolete in a very short time frame.

The way I humbly see it is that there are already significant gains for jobs requiring mobility and a light system to go thunderbolt 1. Seeing your excellent support for new and exciting technologies like the Retina display (which exists in a dual port Thunderbolt 1 computer), I think its actually viable to go and invest in thunderbolt 1 equipment for these situations. The question is what to do in a year's time, or when Workstations start appearing with Thunderbolt 1, workstations like the HP systems and the upcoming 2013 Macpro's. Again as someone that only knows computers in a very basic level, my fear would be to invest in a Tower in the coming year, knowing that it would be incompatible with this thunderbolt 2 configuration that should be coming the same year or on the next, and knowing that with my investment in Red and Red Gear, I would miss out in all the cutting edge technological developments you guys are bringing to the table with these technologies in mind. While you guys are committed to Obsolescence Obsolete, the other definitely aren't, and we are talking about thousands of dollars when an investment is made on a workstation and accessories based in certain connections... A workstation is something I plan to use for many years, just like I use my 2008 Mac Pro, upgraded with a Quadro 4000 card and extra RAM. Its a computer that can still do its job with a Rocket fairly well, probably at the same level, or a bit slower (not very perceptible) compared to the new Retina laptop. 4 years separate these computers, of course. But this, of course, is not your problem! Just thinking out loud. Decisions, decisions! :)

EDIT- And sorry for going off topic here. I don't have a color grading panel and Beta 16 is working very well, without issues so far over here. It seems faster, haven't pushed it yet.

Thanks Grant. That was it. Disabled Element in Resolve and bingo. I think it's fine that way if BMD doesn't do anything (which I'm guessing they won't). Not a big deal to disable the Element in Resolve when using RCXP. It's just that there was nothing to tell us to do that in RCXP and a note saying to see Tangent's website about Tangent Tube, about which there's no info there. I know it's a beta, but would be better to have a note saying to make sure Tangent Hub (not Tube) is installed and that the Element is turned off in Resolve's preferences. Thanks for your late night rescue!

Oh, after some initial testing I found the controls for Sharpness, Denoise, and Detail aren't working.

I also think the display on the Tb panel could be cleaned up a bit. Remove the grid and just have it say Lift, Gamma, Gain, Shadows, Darks, Mid, Lights, High in the bottom row only on those pages without the Bias , X, and Y. For the 3-way controls, everyone using these knows what the jog shuttle and trackerballs do to those controls. However, have it say 3-Way Color Correction on the top row. And for the Curve Controls have it say that on the top row for those pages. I think it would be more clear that way. You could add XY to the Curve pages if it will fit, but I don't think it's necessary.

Otherwise, very cool! I like that there's curve controls from the panel now. Very awesome!
