Alexander's workaround above will do the job. Note that most video deliverables also require you to provide textless elements anyway (for promos, trailers, foreign-language versions, etc.), so it's a step you need to make anyway. Creating the titles in HD should avoid some of these issues.

Thanks all. I'll keep the titles for white on the HD versions and red on the 4K, unless as Alex mentions I have to deliver without the titles but I don't think that's a requirement right now.
