I'm Very curious to know how the usual 3D movie theater projects the 3D files? Are they a collection of avis?

How about the sound? If I want 7.1 In what format is delivered ? One file? It can't be..

For a small file is easy but when you talking 3hrs 4k res then what?

To start with if I shoot with the Scarlets 3D (I only own 2 Scarlets 01463=Naxos and 01327=Paros) is it better to edit the footage and deliver it in 4k or shrink it to 3k and project it better in 3k?

Also a twixtor slowed 60fps 2k file tp 180fps ..will it have a chance in the big screen? Or better rent 2 Epics for a slow motion shot.

I shot some awesome 3D with the Scarlet-X, lots of nice editing and I like to see it in a big screen at full 4k res. Any ideas??

I live in Delray Beach, Florida and love to network with users in my area.

Thank you all for any possible answers, please feel free to contact me

    Ken

Stereoscopic features are delivered as a DCP, running at 48fps with interleaved left and right eye images.

And what would delivery be for a feature shot at 48 fps, 96 fps interleaved?

Also, is it 48 fps or 47.96 fps. Or either one? Thanks, Mike.

Most common present day approach is to take your Left/Right image sequences or movie files to a DCP mastering house, and have them prep your files for DCP (Digital Cinema Package) delivery... a process which essentially repackages the digital files onto a specifically spec'd hard drive into a "projector friendly" file structure.

(I work on both East and West Coasts, and there are MANY reputable companies (...efilm, Dolby, FotoKem...) that can help you out.

(In the old days, you could macgyver it by syncing two projectors side by side and overlap the images on your movie screen... which you can still try today with some research, a little ingenuity, and 2 sheets of properly polarized glass placed over the two projector lenses.)

Regarding frame rates, we've delivered master files in both 24 fps and 23.976 fps, depending upon the project scope... and we generally rely upon the DCP house to create multi-frame projection masters for us, as it is commonly just a matter of double or triple repeating each image frames for playback to reduce flicker, and assist in ghost busting.

Oh. And you will likely want to research ghost busting.

    hope this helps...

M, Pawel and CK thank you for the replies, of course your replies helped a lot!

Do most theaters use 2k or 4k or? DCPS? and Imax's best DCPS res?

If Avatar was shot at 1080p and look fine at Imax then a 4k film from Scarlet-X's must look absolutely awesome?

So far any 3D feature has been mastered at 2K, even when they go out to IMAX. 3D DCP does not currently support resolutions above 2K.

Awesome, Thank you Jason! I thought the Doremi DCP-2000 played 4k (at their site they claim it does) and most of the 3D's were @4k.

"JPEG2000 2K or 4K movie and preshow file playback at 2K resolution..."

I'd read the marketing material very carefully. I am not familiar with that device, so it is possible, but as far as I know, 2D DCP goes up to 4k and 3D only 2K. Both Amazing Spider-man and Prometheus were finished at 2K and did go out to IMAX.
