    Here's the scoop ...

We will rent a Red package for the bulk of the filming (all?) of FINDING ME, but have a chance to bring in a second, non-Red camera to do those other angles and pick ups. Am I flirting with disaster here?

We just can't afford two Reds, unless funding magically brims over the cofferes (currently at zero!!, and not the same as the untitled Christmas story)

What would your b camera be? Also is it capable of shooting the same frame rate/aspect ratio/glass/etc as your red? is the sensor size the same? all these make it tougher to cross cut it, but since the red is shooting raw (i assume) you can grade it to match....it is possible...but knowing how close you can match the settings is the determining factor....also consider other ways to maximize your red efficiency. hiring a good DIT, that can keep you rolling, etc...

Some of my friends rent red one mx's (good rate right now) and mix it with canon 5d/7d for car mounts, bikes, etc ... seems to go a good job at 1080p/2k as the final for the movie. When I do this (for shorts), i use the same lens (my cp2 50mm which i switch back between pl for red camera and ef for canon camera) ... i think using the same lens across both camera types helps integrate the images a bit easier.

I've seen 7D's cut really bad with RED, other times i've seen 7D footage cut well. It really depends on how it was exposed, shot and graded, for one to determine if itll cut well or not.

Out of the box, no - it won't cut well. With a little bit of skill, you can make it work..

I'd agree that you should get a red one mx- pretty cheap right now and you can share lenses, v-mount batteries and cards ( if it has ssd module ). It may even be cheaper than say an F3 ( which would be my next choice - in s-log). The red one and the scarlet/epic will cut pretty seamlessly, I'd stay away from intercutting within scenes with any other camera. I shot this video both with epic and redone, there's no way to tell the difference.

Isn't that what Scarlet was designed to do? You can easily get a scarlet for the same rate as a 5D or anything else you would rent.

The other camera is Canon t3i or 7D. And we will be shooting in NY probably late fall - want to get the color before it all fades.

Uh, no. In LA a typical Scarlet package rental is 425-450, and a 5d package rental is 125-175

Yea man in NYC they ain't the same either, no way does a 3,000 dollar 5D compete for a 15-20k Scarlet rate wise, not even in back country lol!! Mind you those rates are for like a ready to shoot package, no glass...and the bodies cost no wheres near the same
