I'm reading the config guide for Resolve 9 and it says:

"DaVinci Resolve can perform RED r3d decoding at various resolutions and de-bayer qualities tomatch the realtime performance of your computer hardware. If a RED Rocket card is installed, full resolution and premium de-bayer quality of 2K filescan be achieved, as can premium de-bayer quality of 4K files at half resolution. If you plan on using aRED Rocket card in slot 4, the Mac Pro’s limitation of four PCIe slots will necessitate the use of either a PCI Express expansion chassis, an internal storage software RAID and/or a FireWire 800 drive.

"Realtime r3d decoding can be performed without the RED Rocket card but at reduced resolution and de-bayer quality. If 4K r3d files need to be processed in real time at maximum quality, a Resolve for Linux system with multiple GPUs must be used. As newer generations of faster computers become available, the realtime r3d decoding performance will increase."

Is this just for playback while color correcting, or is it also for rendering? If it's rendering, that is disappointing, to say the least. I would rather have slower than realtime with full debayer rendering. And what about 5K?

That is just for playback. When your doing final render your fps will drop slightly because it is doing a full debayer. So in short your final render is full debayer, only your playback is limited so you can get real time viewing and multiple correction nodes.

That's what I thought and was hoping. They should be more clear in the manual since it doesn't specify that's for playback and that rendering is full debayer.

Do you have to change the master decoder RAW setting to FUll before final render? Or will it automatically switch to full and utilize the rocket?

I get failures when I set the master to full debayer on a macbook pro retina, so i'm stuck in half debayer. This is during render, not playback.

On the delivery panel you can Force over ride all the setting to the highest quality with a couple of toggle buttons.

Thanks! I JUST cracked the seal on Resolve and am learning it. Haven't had a peek yet at the delivery pane but I thought I'd get in on this thread while it's active!!!
