Self-Test and LCD Touchscreen?

So...after doing a recent firmware upgrade, black shade calibration, and motion calibration my eyes fell upon a test I've not run before: the Self Test. No, I'm not talking about pushing my body and mind's capabilities and achieving spiritual bliss through purge or catharsis, but the function listed at the bottom of page 139 in the handy dandy 3.2 Op Guide.

The proceeding pages discuss Enabling Sensor Test Patterns and a Touchscreen test that looks like they'd come in handy. However, Self Test is not available to me on my Maintenance menu. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a preset or separate setting that I could have switched on or off that is barring me from this option? Or is this Self Test much more metaphorical and I truly do need to look within?
