I'm about to start a project with a mix of animation and live action. I would love to do both with my Epic, but since there is no "Stills" mode on the Epic its a kludge. However, I really don't want to deal with mixing 5D still sequences with Epic footage.

The main problem is for animation, we need hundreds of carefully composed stills. To do that we use Dragon. No problem there. The problem is that with Epic, I have to record a short clip in place of each still. Then open each clip in Redcine-X and export a single frame from each. Then I can bring those frame grabs (still exports), one from each clip, into After Effects as an image sequence and edit.

Does anybody know if there is a way to automate the process of Openning each R3D file, extracting a single still from each one (say the 24th frame in the clip), and saving it to a common folder with a sequenced file name?

If so that could save my production a huge amount of time, in a very tight project.

Any help or suggestions are welcome!

This could be done as a custom script controling redline. If you are on Mac and interrested in having me write it you can contact me in PM to discus it further...

I recently wrote a script for another REDuser to shuffle clips around in random order (based on an FCP xml) and he was quite happy with it.

I just wanted to follow-up. Mikael wrote a script for me, rushed over the weekend, and it works fantastically. Its easy to use, takes advantage of my Rocket card, and allows me to use the Epic to capture stop motion animation.

Its people like him that make RedUser a great place to visit. Thanks Mikael, you've saved us a lot of production time!
