Hello guys, I would like your opinion on some ideas that we had .. one of these ideas is this filter ...
The GRID Filter is an accessory that allows RedUsers use their Epic an Scarlet cameras in extreme conditions ... The filter prevents you from the clustering of dust or sand on the inside of the camera, protecting the functioning of the camera ...
its very useful in extreme situations, such as beaches, deserts, rallies and other situations in which there is too much dust in the air ...

    Hey Nicholas

I may be after something like this with a 3day shoot in sand dunes & subjects low to the ground. I reckon 2 issues

    1) How much airflow does this inhibit?

    2) By the looks of the pics your using strong magnets to mount the filter to the body. Can this create problems for the sensor being so close ie what does Red reckon?

    hi mike,
    1) the filter does not obstruct the ventilation of the camera ...
    2) the four magnetic contacts do not affect the operation of the sensor.

Ive been looking for something like this for a while. If Red approve it then id fit them to all our cameras. We are always in remote dusty areas and looking to keep the environment out of the works.

From all reports, the fans are completely sealed from the inner workings of the camera. Given that this would simply stress the fans, wouldn't it be simpler just to blow the dust out periodically?

The cooling duct and fans are completely sealed from the electronics inside the camera, according to RED. This "filter" serves no real purpose but to restrict airflow IMO.

    No thanks.

How much more hotter does the camera temp rise during testing?

    hi,
in fact... in the tests we did the temperature didn't changed over a period of 1h.
this filter is the same type as those used in cases of server computers.
therefore does not block the air passing through the fan.
the purpose its to avoid not only the dust, as also solid residues such as sand and confetti to accumulate inside the camera.
