    Hi
For an upcoming shoot I will be filiming a singer in an empty room with a minimum number of props to make it seem like an apt.
Can anyone suggest some quick and inexpensive ways to improve the acoustics and cut down on the echo?

Molton fabric on stands or taped to the walls / ceiling (wherever it is not visibile) will do the the trick.

I vote for Liam's answer: lipsync to playback.

If it absolutely has to be an acoustical performance done live, get a great location that's well-soundproofed, like a large recording studio or top-quality soundstage. You can hang soundblankets on C-stands and throw them on the floor, but these are bandaids at best in a reflective room.
